Year 6 have spent the last few weeks deepening their knowledge on how human activity is affecting the climate. Having been inspired by watching David Attenborough’s recent documentary, the children independently researched the impact of different sectors of the economy on the climate. We were shocked by the huge impact the food industry has on our environment: from deforestation and transportation to water usage.
Year 6 decided the best way to spread the word was to open an environmentally-friendly cafe for teachers and staff. The recipes were a mixture of vegetarian and vegan and included lentil bolognese, beetroot falafel, tabbouleh and much more besides! The children did everything from design the menus, budget the costs, wait tables and actually cook the food for 30 hungry teachers.
It was a fantastic learning experience that the children will certainly never forget!
