Year 1 have been learning about the artist Frank Bowling. We learnt that he makes abstract art. This means we express how we are feeling using different colours and shapes. It was hard to resist drawing pictures of familiar things like houses and dogs!
We started by learning about primary and secondary colours and began to think about how we can mix them together to get the colours that we want. We then used different materials and primary colours to make our own abstract art in the style of Frank Bowling. We love how he uses objects and materials that we wouldn’t expect to be in a painting such as jewellery, foam, shells and even toys! We used lots of objects and materials from our classroom to create our artwork. What do you think?
